Interview
Phone screens with recruiter and hiring manager. Sourcer reached out on LinkedIn, and set up a call with the recruiter. We had a 30 min conversation about my background and set up a call with the hiring manager, with whom I had a similar call.

Interview
I was contacted by an Airbnb recruiter and was told I had been referred by someone, but he didn't provide a name. This initial conversation was good and the recruiter told me that he would be scheduling me with the hiring manager for an additional interview. I had to contact that same recruiter a week later because I hadn't heard anything. He was apologetic and got me scheduled fairly quickly after that.
The interview with the hiring manager was brief and it felt like she had made up her mind well before she even spoke with me by phone. She then indicated there were other candidates farther along than me and also asked me about my willingness to relocate more than once (I was an out of state candidate). At the end of the "interview" she told me that the recruiter I initially spoke with would be in contact soon to let me know next steps.
After a few weeks of not hearing back I AGAIN reached out to the recruiter. He was AGAIN apologetic and said that he thought I had been told that someone else was hired into the role. Hmmm....no, that's typically YOUR job to notify YOUR candidates.
All in all, it was a very disappointing and confusing experience. I have no idea who referred me and I have no idea why they contacted me when it seemed like they already had a few candidates they were considering.
I've been an Airbnb host for several years and have excellent reviews... you'd think they'd consider their treatment of at least those types of candidates a bit more carefully. Good way to lose hosts AND customers (I'm exploring my options and plan to take the advertising for my rental elsewhere).
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Airbnb (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
I applied online and received a link to fill submit some video interviews and short answers a little over 2 weeks later. I was given a week to complete it, so I spent a lot of time writing, prepping, and recording the answers. Questions were standard behavioral interview questions with a few that required some thinking outside the box. After submitting the videos and short answers at the end of the week, I received a canned email the beginning of the following week stating that they decided not to move forward with the application. At no point did I have the opportunity to interact with or get in contact with an actual person, and I do feel that a phone interview along with written exercises would be much more helpful in getting a feel for an applicant instead of recorded video responses. I would love to work at Airbnb but definitely did not feel valued as an applicant.

Question 1
Tell us a little about yourself. What should we know that isn't on your resume?
Imagining that you had unlimited resources, what would you do at a new university in order to 1. connect with the best CS students and 2. build brand awareness on behalf of Airbnb?
