I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Bloomberg
Interview
You can fill the form via the website for the desired role. They have a basic call with the talent acquisition professional, followed by an Excel and analysis round, and two interviews at the end with the hiring manager and associates.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The Excel round is ridiculous - they expect detailed organization of the data and an entire report section with proper formatting, charts, and quantitative insights on the spot within 1 hour.
If you are late even by 3-4 minutes, they apparently do not accept the assessment.
At a mid-level or experienced position, this is an unbelievable way to assess somebody's skillset and technical knowledge based on a singular dataset where candidates can easily cheat or get somebody else to help them out.
Furthermore, the 1-hour urgency is pointless as the kind of exercise they allocate is usually worth an entire day of analysis and carefully articulating that analysis takes more time than an hour.
Organizing the process like a competitive CAT exam serves no purpose of valuably assessing people's actual knowledge and experience.
I applied online. I interviewed at Bloomberg (New York, NY) in Jan 2023
Interview
Not to bad focus on personality. They asked some technicals but there was a focus on your sales ability. They asked to simulate a client call which is tough because you don’t know much about the product.
Case study - given a 5-minute reading and did a 30-minute presentation to discuss the reading (about IPO company) and provide some of your comments. After the case study, you would have to interview with the manager one to one.
