Had a brief call with someone from the talent acquisition team and could immediately tell it wasn't going to be a match. Why companies don't understand the 'people' function and what it does to a brand putting unqualified recruiters at the front line really boggles my mind. Hard pass for me.

Standard script questions. Most likely googled, "interview questions".
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PlayQ (Santa Monica, CA) in Nov 2016
Interview
The interview process was lengthy. There was a panel of individuals with varying levels of experience within the gaming industry as well as varying degrees of interview experience. Majority of the panel asked the average pertinent questions with the exception of the CEO. Once I talked to the CEO the questions we're specific to my experience & I had to troubleshoot on the spot.

Question 1
How would you handle porting a game from Cocos2d to Unity?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PlayQ (Santa Monica, CA) in Nov 2014
Interview
The interview process was thoughtful and deliberate; thorough without being drawn out. It encompassed phone conversations, a 'take home' design assessment, and face-to-face interviews. I enjoyed meeting directly with the studio founders and being able to ask direct questions about the studio's ambitions, realistic roadmap, and structure. That conversation left me impressed with the capabilities, professionalism and ambition of leadership and, more than anything, was the deciding factor for me in taking the position.
I spent about 6-8 hours on the take home assessment, spread out over a few days. I actually enjoyed it, as it was very open-ended and allowed for creativity in design and approach. My submitted assessment was used in the follow up interview - I walked through my responses, explained my choices, and listened to and incorporated feedback as it came.
Overall, everyone I interacted with was amiable, professional and timely throughout the process.
