I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Shopify (Galway) in Jun 2019
Interview
First of all, the person who i was talking to wasn't in the mood for conversation, that was obvious from the start ,If they don't like you over the phone (no matter if is nationality or having too much experience in customer service) ,you won't pass the interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Auckland, )
Interview
After applying through a recruiter I received an email for Life story interview. I was looking forward to this role so booked for first interview immediately. General questions based on my life story. As per the initial guidelines, the interview was supposed to be for 45 minutes. My interviewer had issues with network so we started a bit late. She explained the process and started asking questions. Within 20 minutes she moved on to the last part where I get to ask questions. She also confirmed that I should hear back by Tuesday as the interview was on Saturday.
I didn't hear anything until Wednesday so I emailed to get some feedback. Later that day I received another invitation for Gauntlet without actually getting any reply to my email. I booked in for Gauntlet, prepared for it for a week based on what was mentioned in guidelines. On the day of this interview I was told that there will be 3 sets of emails that I have to reply to. No phone calls or chat. When I asked about it I was told that I have applied for language role. This was new as no one at any stage mentioned about this.
Initially I was quite impressed with Shopify after reading about it. I had built a website on Shopify for my business and had a good experience overall. I had lot of expectations from this company but the interview experience was quite disappointing. Everywhere it talked about how it is the best company to work for or its a company that offers diversity. I hadn't come across such company before so I was quite impressed to know they don't ask typical interview questions because they want to know real you. Eventually it turned out to be like any other company because I was simply rejected without any feedback on what went wrong.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Cork) in May 2019
Interview
I applied online and I got contacted within 2 days by the Talent Aquisition Team.
I got to book myself the first interview - via an online form (excellent method).
I also received a brief description of the role before booking my first interview: what´s the role about, a schedule overview, and so on.
The first interview was very informal and basically, you chat about your life. This is a great method to get to know someone, without having those boring prepared interview questions.
If they like you, you move on to the second part - The Gauntlet.
This is a practical hands-on interview: role play incl. multiple chats, phone calls, and e-mails. You are basically tested on:
- how well you cope with this kind of work,
- your ability to work under pressure (as you are on a timer),
- how fast you learn: you get feedback after each role-play which you need to take in consideration and improve yourself during the next challenge
Overall: this interview method is great and much more effective than traditional interviews. Even if you fail it (as I did :) - it give you an understanding of why you failed, what you need to do to improve if you want to re-apply in the future
- you need to create a mock store to get a better understanding of the platform
Room for improvement: After having interviewed for a language-specific role, and having submitted my references, only to find out that the position has already filled out before my Gauntlet. That was a bit disappointing.
The reference stage is quite time- consuming for your references. They get a set of super complex questions about you which they need to take time, think through and answer them in a timely manner.
