Shopify Front-End Developer interview questions

I applied to be an intern on their website. A few weeks later had an interview over skype which was simple questions about my life and who I am. This lead to a second interview where I was asked to present a project and possibly answer a question. Interview went very well but they must not have thought my skills suited to front end developpment so I was turned down. However I was invited back for a backend interview. Overall both interviews were more personal than technical and involoved showing a project. Being able to show practical experience is super important to shopify.

Looking at various other reviews you will probably realize that Shopify interviews aren't on the hard side, and from my experience that's true. However, that doesn't mean anybody can get in, it is just a different interviewing style. They don't have you sit down in front of a desk and start questioning you, handing you quiz and asking you to draw/code on a whiteboard. Instead, everything is a discussion and collaboration. This deviates from the traditional interview process of testing for algorithm/data structure/behaviour etc. Thus if you're good and competent at your craft, there's no need solving a gazillion code challenges online or look up the company value/history to hone your skills or craft your responses. On the other hand, interview consists of several rounds of talking, and lots and lots of talking with different people, with some white boarding and peer programming. Overall everyone I've met were extremely nice and there were no interrogative questions, mere friendly and constructive discussions. But the interview might feel very long given the amount of talking. All the talking will reveal your true self, how you are as a person and how you work as you normally work, not how you dress up to be and how you prepare to work for the interview. You can tell that despite the non-traditional interview styles, these guys are very careful with the people they're hiring. P.S. no one asked me to draw any owls.
