I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Jan 2023
Interview
Interview process was generally positive. Recruiters were responsive from start to end.
Pair programming interview questions were very down to earth, not something like implementing a binary search tree or so. Communication was easy with the interviewers.
On technical deep dive interview, interviewer requested me to talk about a recent project. In a short while it felt like he wasn't satisfied with the project I chose and seemed like he wasn't really interested in. At the same time, he was constantly smoking his e-cigarette while we were interviewing and it made me feel strange. I think it would considered as an inappropriate behavior by Shopify & this interviewer if the candidate was smoking instead. Interview feedback I got for this last interview was like written for somebody else, didn't sound like what I talked about in this interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Problem solving, life story, pair programming, technical deep dive.
Technical issues during the live-dev interview led to me not having the full time to complete the interview. It was an interesting problem to solve, but a bit frustrating of an experience
I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Ontario, CA) in Feb 2021
Interview
Initial phone screen followed by a length HR "tell me about you" interview which was great, very personable and the best part of the interview. Finally a code interview where I was presented with a basic algo question by an uninterested engineer (to their benefit they probably had other things to do) who did not work in the language or department I interviewed for.

Question 1
1. Tell me about your work history. 2. I don't recall the code question but it was basically fizz buzz.
