I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify
Interview
Spoke one time by phone for 5 minutes, the guy told me I was really "interesting" and he wanted to talk to me more. Two days after, I didn't have any news so I emailed him back to ask him what was going on. He then scheduled me for another interview, but on Skype this time.
We talked again on Skype for only 5 minutes, and we talked globally about the same things that we talked about the first time (To be honest I felt like this was pretty pointless).
Then, I got schedule for another with a real developer. I believe the interview went well, we spoke about the tech stack they were using, he asked me what I liked to do, what was my development environment, why I said I like more X language than Y language, etc...
There were no "real" technical question.
The day after the interview, I get a call and they tell me that they will be moving forward with another candidate because I don't have enough "experience".
I find this reason particularly funny because:
1) I applied for an internship, not for a Senior Developer position. I'm confused about what they except from their interns. And whats the point to apply to an internship when you already have a lot of experience? The POINT of an internship is to gain EXPERIENCE.
2) THEY were the ones to told me that at Shopify, tons of dev are self-taught, they value self-learning and self-teaching capacities over a diploma, every employee there learn from each other, etc...
They should stop using so much buzzword in their speeches and in their job posting and their expectations are unrealistic.

Interview
The process took about three weeks or so. I applied online and then I got a quick call from a recruiter. After a week I was invited for interview in person.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Very casual questions from recruiter. Technical part was a little bit challenging and he was digging into details from my past experiences and challenged me on some of my codes!
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Shopify in Dec 2014
Interview
3 Behavioural and general knowledge interviews: 1 with HR and 2 with devs. Relaxed and bidirectional. Good to show passion and personal projects I think. It worked for me at least. The process is very fast and efficient, they hire early and have deadlines. Interviews are done on Skype with webcam.
