The process took 3 days. I interviewed at TJ Maxx in Aug 2010
Interview
Submitted an application and was called the next day for an interview. Interview was short and relaxed- basic questions about my people skills, experience, and connections to anyone already at the store. Afterward I was given a long questionnaire with questions pertaining to personality traits and how I would react in different situations both in and out of store. Received a call shortly after I got home with a job offer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I don't remember the exact questions but one was something like "Would you comfortable interacting with customers as a cashier?"
I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at TJ Maxx in Nov 2011
Interview
I thought this interview was going to be hard, but in fact it was actually very easy. Just prepare a day beforehand what you're going to say. Questions were:
"Tell me about yourself."
"Describe a time when you had a conflict and what you did to resolve it."
"What does customer service mean to you?"
"What does team work mean to you?"
"What hours can you work?"
"Will anything get in the way of you working here this season? Vacations, etc."
They didn't ask me to "sell them something" which made me relieved. So don't stress about that one.
If you apply around October/November, you'll most likely only get a seasonal job, but take it if you need the experience and if it's your first job. You might have a chance by the end of the season to become a full employee.
Look professional, NO jeans. Wear a nice blazer, if you're a girl. Wear a nice shirt and tie, if you're a guy. GOOD LUCK!

Interview
The assistant manager interview me. The process lasted about 30 minutes. She asked questions ranging from "tell me about yourself" to "why should I hire you?" She asked "describe a time where I had a conflict and had to resolve it, and what I did to resolve it." That was a difficult question because I really hadn't had any conflicts. Just remain honest and prepare for the interview. It's typical questions. If you get along well with the interviewer, you have a great chance of securing the job.
