Pros
From the moment that I first interviewed with the founders I was immediately inspired by their drive, passion and vision on payments, at a time when I never thought about payments being such an interesting space to work in. Think about it: how many companies rely on payments and how antiquated is that industry? What you basically should know about the founders: They started a similar company in the 90’s when the Internet was still very early, sold that company, realizing that they could have achieved so much more, and started again, and that is the meaning of Adyen, "to start all over again". Some people assume its from Australian Dollar to Japanese Yen..AdYen..not true, but could be, try it in the interview.. Adyen today is basically the payments platform that was designed and built to remove all the constraints of the existing legacy providers and banks in a time where technology is moving very fast, consumers are relying on mobile phones, buying online has become the default, and the lines between online and offline shopping are fading away. What I learned over the years working at Adyen and interviewing many candidates is that when looking for a job you should really ask yourself “what would truly make me happy”? Adyen hires people who truly enjoy what they do, and that is exactly the recipe on why the work culture at Adyen is so much fun. Having people around you that love what they do makes all the difference. So if you’re that person and you know what you want and like, then you will love Adyen. If you come to Adyen and take a job as a compromise or even a stepping stone to your greater ambitions you will not be happy. Example here would be: you come with the ambition to become a people manager. Adyen picks leaders that have proven themselves to be role models. Adyen promotes people because they have proven to be that person, Adyen doesnt promote people because Adyen believes they would be capable of doing the job. In other words, if you are a born people manager, that job will naturally come to you. Basically, you make your own career. Working at Adyen is the right mix of challenge, opportunity and immediate results from your actions, mixed in with a healthy startup culture where we move on when things don’t work out and try next, no looking back, no fingerpointing, no blaming. Success has many fathers, egoism and not taking responsibility and ownerships are things that don’t fly at Adyen... Remember the meaning of Adyen? It will help you understand the culture.. Its a very global work and business environment in a fast paced setting where everyone can function best with a large amount of autonomy and positivity. If you come from a more corporate environment you will see quickly what the difference of atmosphere is once you enter one of our offices, it can be wild at times, and then again highly focused. True Adyeners are a bunch of honest, humble and driven people with a natural drive to make things work for our merchants. We like to challenge status quos and enrich our work life with creative ways of facing problems, be it using existing products to create new ones, understanding requests from merchants and translating those into our language, looking for new opportunities in unexpected areas. This is powered by the Adyen people and our belief in ourselves, in our platform, our technology, our people. As a company, Adyen is focussed on Adyen and merchants, not on competitors, not on M&A, but pure organic growth. Obviously with such a long time at Adyen I am slightly biased towards the pros at Adyen, I still wanna list some pros as I have my own personal view: Payments are an essential part of any company, hence working in payments is so interesting and essential. Payments is not a products that you need to defend its existence. And Adyen is the best company at payments, look it up :) Adyen has passed the stage of the startup insecurity, yet the culture is still pretty much that of a startup. The advantage is of course that you get best of both worlds: a dynamic and secure job environment Global offices do work seamlessly together. Its natural since the majority of Adyen customers are global. And if they’re not global yet, they are usually intrigued by the International aspect of Adyen’s future proof solution When we make decisions we take a very simple approach of “does it make sense”? Budget is a banned word from the Adyen vocabulary . When we make decision we stand behind the decisions but we always listen to the other side as well. In fact, everyone is encouraged to make decisions. Golden rule here: dont blush. Actually, I think we hardly ever blush. Funny, thinking about it Again, as much as Adyen is a premium provider, Adyen is also a premium employer with values and work ethics that will make you happy . And being happy is what counts to perform well, its that simple..
Cons
well, if you are not eager, hungry, ambitous, driven, street smart
