Pros
I love the freedom and responsibility that is given to every employee from day one. You're treated as a professional and you're taken seriously. There are no silly policies that tell you what to do; you are expected to use your own judgement and make decisions that benefit the business. There is little hierarchy; I don't need to ask permission all the time, I can make changes myself if there is ample reason for me to do so, based on my experience and expertise - and after having discussed with peers. I left my previous employer because it was corporate, super hierarchical and I often felt belittled and my intelligence wasn't taken seriously, because I had to follow structures and methodologies that just didn't make sense to me - which I was not expected to challenge. How different Adyen is! We are expected to come up with new ideas and make the business better every single day. Working for Adyen gives me the freedom and autonomy I love, without having my own business ;) Also, every person is valued for who they are and what they bring to the table, so you can be yourself and wear what you want - I'm the same person at home and at work.
Cons
There are no fixed career paths: you need to figure that out for yourself, based on your strengths, interests, business needs etc. I'm confident I'll find my way, but I know this is not for everyone. When I joined - coming from a management consulting firm, with a "work hard, play hard" mentality, where I also pushed my boundaries - I really had to step up and switch gears. Adyen's speed is faster then any company I've seen. You're dropped in the deep end and you learn to swim. This is uncomfortable at times, and if this does not fit your personality, you won't be happy at Adyen. FYI this doesn't mean we work long days - most of my weeks are normal 40-hour weeks - it's just that we work very smart and always push ourselves to be better.
