With no power comes great responsibility

Pros

Immense responsibility over a wide range of areas, lots of growth potential. Diverse markets and customer bases. Lots of job openings.

Cons

No power to control responsibilities. Micromanagement by Microsoft Office. Low pay. Corporate programs are rolled out with zero input and no tools to implement. No clear direction for the company. Matrix organization results in conflicting demands and no one has visibility to all the programs that are being rolled out.

Pros

Interesting chemistry work if you get a chance to do any real work.

Cons

Extremely bad managers, the best people seldom get promoted and it is all politics more than common sense which steers the direction of the company. In R&D when I was there there was a managers retreat- of 66 in the building, only 4 of us were left who were not "officially" managers. Lots of people trying to micromanage a very few who actually do the real work... whenever the strategy proved to not work, they would reorganize so that the people responsible for the bad strategy would no longer be "responsible" for it. Reorganized 6 times in 7 years I was there!
