Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn energy markets and commodities. Can be a stepping stone to trading or a career in journalism. Hard work can be handsomely rewarded with significant pay increases. The benefits are very good, health care will cost you next to nothing, 50% 401K match, 3-weeks of vacation at the start with annual increases in vacation time. No requirement to work weekends

Cons

Management could listen more to employees about how to improve reports and stories. There's a lot of turnover here because there isn't much room from advancement, only lateral moves across different energy / commodity markets. The news room seems to be perpetually understaffed and many people seem to never leave their desk. The flat structure of the organization makes it easier for co-workers and other departments to push more work on you -- be ready to set limits for yourself

Pros

Working as a reporter at Argus gives you a terrific understanding of global energy/commodities markets. The hours are reasonable, colleagues are very friendly and helpful, and the company is stable/growing. Employees are serious about doing good work, but the office atmosphere is fairly relaxed.

Cons

Some of the work is a bit tedious, and the tedium is exacerbated by unwieldy technology. The company could make its editorial teams more productive--and in turn provide better information to its clients--by modernizing its technology.

Pros

You don’t have to work hard, if at all. There is no senior person in the office so you can literally come in for a few minutes to check the box and then do whatever you want. People are nice, family atmosphere. But this isn’t a company, it’s an extension of the CEO’s family.

Cons

Senior leadership are essentially sycophants of the CEO. They tell him only what he wants to hear. Vast majority of senior leaders don’t come into the office or do any work. Shhhh….. don’t tell anyone
