Unfortunate decline of a once great company

Pros

Great people on the ground. Great purpose and vision. Great opportunities in technology.

Cons

Work life balance has been extremely poor since Covid, with senior leaders being asked to do so many +1 roles. Upper management isn't in touch with the people on the ground. Unfortunately a global leader with too many titles/responsibilities has been making poor decisions for several years, apparently with no accountability for his own strategic actions. Management by fear instead of what the company was built on. Over the past 12 months they cut some really good people who had been with the company since the early days, and treated them poorly on exit. That doesn't go unnoticed within the ranks. Short term decisions have long term consequences.

Pros

Each person is assigned a career advisor who serves as a career coach and provides tips on how to navigate the business. Lots of opportunities for certifications and the company recently achieved fair gender pay. Benefits are some of the best I've experienced when it comes to PTO and an extended benefits fund for personal enrichment.

Cons

At first I thought this would be a company I would see myself at for a decent amount of time. Maybe even work myself up into a management or other higher-up type role. I was impressed by the drive for diversity and inclusion in addition to "doing the right thing." The recent layoffs have drastically made me reconsider this. Several long time veterans who devoted themselves to the company where suddenly laid off with short notice. They essentially did everything right, but yet Avanade fell through on their end. It made me realize all the efforts to make the company look socially better are just a facade. Instead I have reframed my goals into seeking an "out" because Avanade has made it clear that loyalty is only a one way street, and even then you aren't safe. I struggle to have any faith in the company looking out for me despite all the contrary massaging and push for ethics. Where are the ethical discussions when it comes to laying off those with 10+ years with the company, only to be faced with an uphill battle with ageism when attempting to start anew in this economy?

Best job I have so far!

Pros

I wanna make a post here for future employees to see as a reference to decide if you wanna join. This is a 100% honest post. Everything is a personal opinion and not influenced by anybody else. As someone who's socially awkward and possibly has ADHD this is the best job I have so far. I joined the company during covid and worked 100% remotely, never meet any colleague in real life. Everything we do is work-related, no unneeded social interaction and this makes me very comfortable. No more "everyone-go-to-a-bar-and-grab-drink" type of event which I HATED in the past during my last few jobs. This is probably a unique situation due to covid but I'm really thankful for that. As someone who hates working on things long-term, Avanade's project usually spans from 3-9 months depending on your TC. I love, love, love this because I get tired of things so quickly and this allows me to shift between many interesting types of work. Every time you shift to another project you work with new people, learn some new skills, and expand your network and knowledge which is awesome. I wish I knew this type of company exists when I first graduated out of college. I worked on different types of tech companies before and hated all of them.. Now I figured in-house tech team is not my thing and I'm so happy I joined Avanade. There's no "you can't do this, you can't do that" type of BS that I encounter in my last few jobs. Everyone is super talented, supportive. You can email anyone requesting help for anything as long as keeping it professional. No more "you can't email this guy because he's the director of x, you need to email this person first and then that" type of bureaucracy.

Cons

The pay is a bit low comparing to most tech companies. However, this is not really a concern for me because I believe you get rich by investing not grinding. Plus the difference is not really that big, so don't make this as the single reason you decide not to join.
