Depressing Environment (Support Department)

Pros

Snacks available, cozy leafs over desk.

Cons

I was new to the company and was put in an isolated assigned seat. I was so isolated behind the partition walls, the nearest person was 3 seats away! Lack of human contact was felt, it was difficult to get work done. I'm not even that social of a person. Apparently my department couldn't control the seating assignments so it was a big deal to get changed? I realize this was a happen chance case- but the isolation made my experience miserable. Also people insisted on the blinds being closed all the time- so the lack of daylight was miserable too! (CSR Department in the Basement-depressing compared to other floors).

Pros

Good work/life balance. Casual and easy atmosphere. Folks seem to care. Good work if you can get in but felt like I had to watch my back for managment.

Cons

Ageism does exist. Heard awful story from a manager about an exec who wanted an older employee let go simply because of their age. Got the feeling this person didn't report it out of fear and felt intimidated. Boys club sometimes. Women need more promoting. Male managers at all levels don't know how to help women. 4 reviews every year for everyone. Number crunchers rule with iron fist. Personal growth/promotion is hard. Might or might not recommend to a friend.
