Politics and greed killed a dream company

Pros

Great IPs, some last pockets of resistance that still value good products and care about the community.

Cons

Over the years, Activision started to infiltrate high-level executives into Blizzard until all the old guard was kicked-off. Then managed to layoff many employees around the world to consolidate publishing and other support groups into Activision. This corporate Game of Thrones might be generating great cost-savings, but at the same time, it killed everything that made Blizzard unique. Other than dev teams, everyone else reports to someone at Activision, making Blizzard's President a puppet figure in charge of delivering products with increasing obsession in microtransaction and predatory business models. And they aren't fixing Blizzard's previous issues, like low pay, almost impossible internal mobility, divisive 'woke' HR, people accumulating multiple functions with 80 hour weeks, and fundamental distrust in the high-level executives. You might see rosy reviews from newer employees, but those never had the chance to see how Blizzard was truly a special place. They are falling for the bs. If you grew up playing Blizzard games and dreamed of working there, sorry to be bearer of bad news: the Blizzard you love is dead.

Pros

-Employees bleed passion. They embrace the 8 core values wholeheartedly and live and breath it. -Opportunities for learning and growth. The company has grown quickly over the past few years and there are opportunities beyond just game development! eSports, Consumer Products, Story and Franchise Development and more. -Limited hierarchy, everyone pitches in and has a voice, and focused on meritocracy -You can be yourself. You don't have to be a gaming geek, there are foodies, pet lovers, table top gamers, tinkerers and so many other interests that you can share with others

Cons

-Company is more of a start up-feel and there's a greater need for more process and documentation, however, not to the point where we are taking away from the creativity and to get things done -It takes time to learn the Blizzard way of doing things, but there's a positive in this as everyone understands this and gives new hires a chance to really absorb the culture and build relationships without being thrown into the fire

Pros

Free stuff is alright enough. And having art from games that you used to love is nice. Although the love you have for the company and any of its games will drain away.

Cons

Hours are crap. And the company is downright cavalier about paying their cs staff less than what they'd make anywhere else. Leadership is clique as hell. Will bend over backwards for people they like. I literally sent an email to my boss saying "I am dealing with some serious depression. I have been hospitalized twice for suicide attempt and I don't want to lose my job. Please help." And was gone within a month.
