Pros

You are treated like an adult, fairly and openly. Expectations are high, but no higher than those you put on yourself. Because Booz Allen is an Honest Broker, the only thing the Firm sells is it's people. There are no pressures to sell equipment and/or software because of partnerships with other companies. You are their bread and butter, so no one stops you from reaching for the stars! As large as Booz Allen is, how cool is it when your senior managers ask you what you want to do when you grow up? You get to work on great projects that make a difference in a collaborative environment. The best part, Booz Allen practices what it preaches. They don't just do something because it's in style or because it's management du jour. They do it because it makes sense and it's the right thing to do. How many companies say that Core Values mean something, then make it the first page of your annual assessment? How many companies will refuse work if it's not a good fit? How many companies say "family comes first" and mean it? Booz Allen is all of this and more. It is a joy coming to work every day.

Cons

The company uses a "matrix management" approach, wherein you are assigned to projects and teams, not a beaurocratic tree. The cool thing is that the right people are assigned to the right projects. The downside is that if you are on multiple projects, you can get spread too thin - kind of like when you're in college and you had 2 papers and 3 tests due on the same day. Time management skills are a key to success. Another downside is that building a personal network is crucial to success within the Booz Allen culture. It takes time, and is based 100% on your reputation to deliver and work well with people. If you want to be a superhero and work alone, this is not the company for you. If you want to be recognized for good work in a team environment, however, come on down!

Pros

Booz Allen has an excellent reputation in the government contracting business and they have a presence in nearly every government agency and organization. If you are in the DC Metro area and are looking to get a stronger network presence, Booz Allen is excellent for creating such.

Cons

The corporate culture is focused on directing people to become project managers, department managers, etc. The forced process guarantees that you can only get promotions and raises if you follow the corporate hard line and eventually give up the job you came to do, be it analysis or software development or scientific research, in order to handle time sheets and mindless administrative tasks for a progressively larger group of people. The drive to bring in projects to make money also often leads to projects that are impossible to do well or with any kind of positive result - and these failures are passed down to the lowest levels - not left at the level where the decision was made to take on the project. These lead to low morale and negative feedback.
