Pros

- Good name on a resume, at least for a while longer - A lot of training available - Great staff, so long as they are not managers

Cons

- Very stressful work environment - Micro-management - Useless review process - No work life balance - Non-existent time off - Overworked employees - Power of influence--your boss is God and so on upward...people are afraid of getting fired - Arbitrary layoffs - Little respect for staff - Lack of a positive strategic vision for growth...just gut the working environment and layoff people - Inconvenient working environments - Booz Allen no longer has a competitive edge..just a body shop - Dominated by military contracts and military personnel...civilians have a hard time - Naturalized citizens laid off easily or put in difficult and uncertain contracts.

Pros

Initial compensation was pretty good with negoiations boosting incoming salary Most of the work has been interesting along the way

Cons

No COLA's Company is making BILLIONS and no bonus for Lead Associates and below and although I have had "exceeding" assessments, my raises have NEVER been greater tha 5% You will have long period of time where you will WORK YOUR ASS OFF for no addtional compensation. Way TOO MANY EVPs, SVPs, Principals, and Leadership do-nothings that add to the overhead or are strategic hires that have no place and contribute next to nothing. Not convinced that "going public" was a good idea as we seem to be losing 1000s of good, smart and dedicated people monthly through this "lack of work" process and continue to maintain 1000 - 1500 openings. Losing many of the "gray beards" and experienced staff and many more will be on the way out once the economy improves and the job market turns around. Assessment process is too time consuming and unproductive for such a large staff. HR leadership is worthless and non-productive and the last couple of organizational transformation have been miserable failures.

Pros

Educational benefits are good, if you can actually find the time to take classes. Booz Allen will pay for advanced degrees and certificates. The annual trip to Kings Dominion is nice. Colleagues are, for the most part, smart and dedicated people.

Cons

Associates carry the burden at Booz Allen. You could have 20 years of experience and be an Associate or you could have just graduated with a PHD and be an Associate, so that level within the company is uneven. Additionally, even if you do have 20 years of experience and solid management experience, you will find yourself doing grunt work. Once the client work is finished for the day, there is a lot of "Booz" work to be done, especially if you are a task lead. If you are a task lead, you're responsible for everything and don't get a lot of support (unless you luck out with a good team, but it's a toss up). You might work 15 hours, but you will get your hand slapped if you put it down on your timesheet. The assessment process is a joke, and extremely time consuming. Additionally, you'll often find yourself managing people (in your admin chain) who make more money than you. If your project ends, you have to find the next one, the onus is completely on you to make sure you are billable, and often it's a popularity contest. Management is extremely uneven within the organization. People often turn down promotions because they can't handle any more responsibility.
