Pros

- Free lunch - The smartest, most amazing coworkers I've ever had - Great company parties and outings - Pretty good benefits - Product is really good, and the company will be successful.

Cons

- Good work is never acknowledged, only when something goes wrong are you called out. - Paid way below market value, and when trying to negotiate was just shut down and told I can leave if I want to. - Leaders on the team say they trust your opinion and knowledge, but then disregard suggestions and do what they want - Senior leaders on team are huge blockers in getting work out. They pressure you for deadlines and then take weeks to approve, or change everything last minute. - Leadership treats team like they are stupid and can't do anything, not only does it ruin morale, but it makes all of our jobs more difficult. - The managers discouraged us as individual contributors from working directly with each other and instead going through them - Senior leadership have no sense of how hard our whole team works and how long it takes us to get things done. - Managers go above our heads to plan for things and then just throw us in and expect us to know exactly what's going on and to pick up where they left off - Senior leader on the team who has called an intern "the b word" to her face, has made racist comments, puts everyone down every chance, and HR ignores. - There was almost 100% turnover on the marketing team in my 2 years there, and more people have left since.

Thank you for providing feedback about your experience at Braze. You indicated you are a former employee on the marketing team. That team has evolved and transformed in the last few months and that did include turnover. We view this as positive turnover, as the people leaving from this team either left for new career opportunities or simply weren’t the right fit for Braze. In May we brought on a new CMO who has tremendous leadership experience and has taken companies public. She has already brought in additional strong leaders to round out the team. We are thrilled to report that the team is now stronger than ever and positioned well for success - we are already seeing the results. Regarding compensation, we work with outside partners to ensure we pay fair market value and offer generous equity packages for all full-time employees. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t have been named as one of the Best Places to Work in 2019 by Inc. Magazine. Braze also has a strong culture of recognizing both individual contributors and also being an open and transparent company where anyone can work directly with others in the company, including c-levels. You also mentioned an issue that you felt HR ignored. We take ALL employee concerns very seriously and can assure you that our People team investigates and responds to all reported concerns promptly and appropriately. It’s important to note that sensitive and confidential matters can not be discussed publicly. The People team is well trained to handle any and all employee matters and did so with everything reported to them.

Pros

Money can be made if you are good at navigating the political landscape

Cons

You will be bullied by sales leaders and told that everything is your fault when in reality Braze is overpriced and overly complicated for SMB and Scale customers. My last 4 months at Braze I was crying daily and being told everything was my fault. Just like my colleagues, sales management was looking for reasons to fire me. I beat the PIP I was put on and I was still fired a month later. All this while a rep in our SMB segment was handed 3 six figure contracts via inbound. This is the worst sales environment I have ever been in during my 9 years of tech sales, and I worked here as a young BDR years ago. My hair was falling out by the end of my time here and as I watched my co workers get silently fired one by one.

Pros

All of the pros you get at Braze come with any startup. These include the generic catered lunches, tuition reimbursement and "flexible" time off (this was actually changed by upper management who has setup suggested timelines for your vacation).

Cons

- Lack of professional growth
 - Top down structure in the department
 - No sense of strategy behind the work that is produced
(getting a sense of company-wide OKR's is a nightmare) - Under-qualified management - my current manager is usually off flying for business trips and does very little to provide me training or feedback to help me do my job. This is unfortunately very common across the other regions as well. How am I possibly expected to grow professionally if my manager just keeps speaking about their previous experience at past companies but isn't able to prove this out in their current role?
 - A pattern of hiring "friends" and putting them in management level roles. We only seem to be able to pull in friends at this point which creates a major issue: most of the managers are not qualified for their position (again, this is global across all the offices), don't understand the product, and don't communicate well about what they need to work on . Referrals don't solidify the people were great at their jobs prior to starting to Braze, here it usually means they're under-qualified and don't know how to manage.

Thank you for this feedback. I am sorry that your experience with Braze has not been all that you had hoped for (and that we had hoped for). I assure you, we do take all employee feedback very seriously. We are working hard to implement the programs, policies and initiatives that make the most sense across the board to drive necessary change and improvements. (Career development, management training, monthly All Hands meetings, Cross Functional Leadership Teams, improved new hire orientation programs, etc.) We definitely have some work to do.Thank you for these insights and know that your voice has been heard! :) Thank you.
