Pros

Great Benefits, Beautiful campus, ability to be hybrid (work from home and office) Mostly great people

Cons

The layoffs are demoralizing. Especially happening at the beginning of this year and this month (June 23). Hate the stack ranking and the belief there is always someone at the bottom. Example if there are 5 people, 1 will be exceptional, 1 or 2 will be excellent and 2 will be good and 1 will always be below standards. Even if you have a team of rock stars.

Good and Bad

Pros

- Decent code base - Some good people at the company who will help you learn and improve - Good extras (retirement matching, annual bonus etc) - Nice vacation time

Cons

- Mandating return to office 2-3 days a week despite every indication from past company meetings that employees are not interested - A lot of toxic practices and micromanaging disguised behind things such as 'culture'. 'collaboration', 'team building' etc - A huge amount of 'for lifer' employees who lack external perspective and who parrot whatever the company stance is - Tone deaf all hands meetings to hear about the senior leadership teams trips and vacations

Pros

The company rewards their employees and has lots of great benefits to take advantage of.

Cons

The leadership is a complete disaster. They have no solid business goals or roadmaps. Half the time any profit made seems to be by accident. They have a toxic leadership style in some areas where associates are bullied and degraded. There is no direction provided to associates and no defined roles. Everything seems to be fly by the seat of their pants. I have never seen such disorder and lack of empathy for associates at such a large well established company. There is massive turn over too, which make’s totally sense. Every leader I have talked to and it has been 10+ have been at Capital One less than 2 years.
