Pros

My colleagues in editorial, production, and rights & permissions were dedicated people who were passionate about the products they produced. The Corporation does offer excellent benefit packages, etc.

Cons

The norm at Cengage Learning, particularly in editorial, is relying on skeletal staff who are responsible for a ridiculously high volume of projects. Some vendors, especially those who took over the rights & permissions work, obviously do not have the expertise or background in copyright law. Upper management tends to change workflows and processes without consulting staff who do the actual work. Their decisions make the daily work more difficult, in my opinion.

Pros

Was a great company but the industry to changing and Cengage has not be able to keep up. There were a lot of great people that worked there and the culture was great. I had the opportunity to interact with people throughout the organization.

Cons

Inability to make necessary investments to compete. Reorganization after reorganization. Jobs are being eliminated and people are asked to do too much. Customers losing faith in the organization and their ability to deliver quality products as well as support what they are selling.

Badly Managed Mess with Little Hope for Recovery

Pros

A paycheck. Insurance. An occasional feeling of being needed but constantly reminded that the future was bleak.

Cons

Constant changes in direction, inability to make the simplest of decisions, bad communication, terrible requirements documents written in unintelligible language. No documentation or training on systems as "management wasn't comfortable with that", Seemed to realize they were headed towards bankruptcy so willing to squeeze employees for everything they could get. A sweatshop with intelligence using Agile as a way to physically and mentally harm employees.
