Pros

Initial autonomy given, though in general, this company values people who stay within a specific operator mode. If you're in the line of sight of the Sr Leadership team, you'll probably be in a good position. If you however, somehow stop getting that attention due to team change or priority shifts, you either need to keep your head down or force yourself to constantly be at the mercy of scrutiny from other members of the team that don't understand what you do because of how siloed the work is from team to team. The company has a visible and diverse female founder who is by all means wonderful, passionate and mission driven, but she unfortunately isn't as connected to the business day to day as she used to be which is a shame.

Cons

I saw many senior leaders depart the company over the course of the months to follow. This could be a sign of growing pains or people outgrowing their positions, but having some pretty smart people in those ranks seemed to indicate otherwise, in addition to others saying how sad they felt. Additionally, I was told by other team mates and other leaders in the business that niceness and group consensus was most important -- something that makes driving a business at this velocity and growth rate tricky. (I'm not saying people need to be mean, but spending more time making sure you don't tread on someone's domain or feet versus trying to spend time solving problems together was tough over time.) I was also told that the old CMO championed swim lanes -- so that people got to achieve their best work by doing what they do best but unfortunately, since she left, that is definitely not the situation anymore. Frameworks abound and are written, but without leaders who know how to scale these properly and enforce them (in some cases I heard that they weren't allowed to), we don't see any efficacy. This is extremely evident across the organization. Lots of paperwork, but with the variability in seniority of middle management, you'd just see half of the managers being strong, and the other half not even understanding how to run a P and L because they were hired in haste and not vetted properly. Even amongst leaders, I saw differences in competency and understanding of their own roles -- and that clearly created chaos and territorial behaviour from some.
