Sweatshop for millennials

Pros

There are definitely benefits of working at a well funded startup but they mainly fall under the perks which put a smoke screen over the many negatives of working there: - You get 200 credits a month to work and experience all the wellness and fitness benefits such as free massages and workouts - There are a number of offices in the US and globally which means you get some opportunity to travel - They have a large budget so you can command a big salary if you are in the right role and get a descent size budget to work with in your team - They offer stock options

Cons

While there are a lot of perks, the micro managing and unrealistic expectations make working here intolerable. It is very much a company run by millennials and particularly being such a female dominated company, where that should be seen as a positive thing, has turned the culture into a catty, nasty and vindictive place where gossiping, back stabbing destroying your personal brand with other teams is the order of the day. The feminist flag is flying high around the office, so god help you if you are a straight white male looking to work here as this is almost frowned upon. Even in the marketing material you are pushed at every corner to show diversity without real logic and reasoning. The senior managers particularly on the marketing side of things can pretend to be nice to you one day, but can switch into a ferocious mood the next where you are treated with a mild neglect. There is also a huge clicky nature in the office where many people have worked together at previous companies, and thus the favoritism is already ripe in the team, leaving you with little room to make an impression and fit in. If they decide they don't like you or that you don't fit the click your time there is going to feel very lonely and you will be working with people who pretend to like you but most likely are writing horrible things about you on slack. My best advice to people looking to apply here, pick up the red flags early in the interview process. Try get as much out of your hiring manager from the get go. Extrapolate who they are as a person, what their expectations are and pick up any clues that this person might be difficult to work for. This was something I picked up but still gave her the benefit of the doubt, but would urge anyone to proceed with caution.

Bit Of A Hot Mess

Pros

- Overall the office is great. Good snacks, drinks, and location. - Great people. Despite it's flaws, ClassPass hires smart, interesting people who are generous with their time and just fun to be around. - Theoretically there are opportunities for growth and many people do well here. - Solid perks like flexible work from home (depending on position), free membership, and occasional office outings.

Cons

- No 401k match - Rampant disorganization and poor communication across teams. - A culture of forced/fake positivity that can feel cult-like at times. - High turnover and low morale. - Tenured employees regularly leaving and having their responsibilities given to people who are under-qualified and spread too thin. - Ridiculous levels of micromanagement is the norm on certain teams. - Growth internally can be somewhat random and poorly organized, so it's not something you can rely on. - They require each member to chat with a customer service agent before canceling their membership. A tactic that is unabashedly tacky and desperate. This contributes to a contentious relationship with their own customers.

Growing Too Fast

Pros

Good snacks and relaxed atmosphere

Cons

Hiring people with little to no people management skills. Definitely a millenial start up company. Too relaxed.
