Cool people but uninspiring culture

Pros

Lots of cool people who know a lot of art, music, style, etc.

Cons

Senior management wasn't that inspiring. The culture is one of bullying and the people in charge have poor leadership skills and rely on non-managers to do their jobs. There's also a buddy-buddy relationship between the editor in chief and the staff, so that those close to him are protected from criticism.

Lots of smart editors to learn from if they're willing to teach you.

Cons

Interns are perceived as free labor.There is absolutely no structure to the internship program, or the overall publication for that matter. It amazes me that this place manages to keep the lights on. The office space is run down and short on equipment. The editorial staff is sterile and pompous. I'm all for hard work and earning my keep, but there is a point where you realize you're just being taken advantage of.
