      Pros

      As a long term employee I have been grateful for opportunities to grow in my career, with the benefit of working for a company I believe in. With the broad array of roles within the company I've been able to move both up and laterally as my interests and skillset has grow. The company culture is supportive, with flexibility and an emphasis on a balance of work and life. The Employee Resource Groups are well supported and offer different avenues to make connections across Cengage.

      Cons

      Being a large company it can be difficult to be as nimble as I would like, especially around AI. But I understand this also demonstrated a commitment to our authors, content providers, and customers.

I am also happy to hear that you feel supported and more well connected as a member of our many Employee Resource Groups. Regarding AI, I can completely understand the sentiment, as I also have found myself fighting the urge to jump into the deep end with AI. As an organization though, I’m confident in the approach we’ve taken to this new technology, which is one of excitement balanced with caution. We want to do it right, and make sure we are introducing solutions that can make a true impact for our customers, and uphold our standards of developing quality, engaging solutions that also take into consideration privacy and security.       Pros

      Company has some interesting approaches to the market and in the past they seemed value employees. There are some good employees there and there was, in the past, visionary leadership, but the people with the vision and leadership skills left the company a few years ago.

      Cons

      The company actively de-values employees. They had a project they called "Project Horizon" where they told all employees they needed to cut costs, so the company was going to have multiple layoffs over 3-5 years - but nobody was allowed to know when, where, or why - - just one day large swaths of people would be gone. That hung over everyone's heads - for years, and is indicative of how Cengage values employees - it doesn't. Everything is about trying to secure new funding and prepare for an IPO, so they stopped investing significantly in the products about 3 years ago and that's about when they stopped acting like they cared about employee wellness as well.
