Pros

I actually have recommended this company to several friends. The work-life balance is amazing and people at every level take advantage of it. It's not something that the company "offers" but people are too afraid to take advantage of. As long as you get high quality work done on time, you can have a lot of flexibility in your work schedule, make day-time appointments, etc. The benefits and pay are sufficient, and there are promotion opportunities for hard workers.

Cons

There is a paradox between the company always telling people to get "fit" as part of the HR/health insurance message, and then all of the free soda in the fridge, and donuts, bagels, and barbecue handed out all the time. If you don't have much willpower, you will have to watch your waistline. The treats are pretty constant. Also, especially among the older employees, there is a pretty strong resistance to change which is annoying when trying to make even small changes.

Extra Space Storage Response

Thank you for the comments and most of all thanks for referring Extra Space as a great place to work. Our wellness team is in agreement with you on taking away the free soda. The challenge is that many employees like the drinks and as an effort we have added healthier choices. Our leaders are making decisions on the new building over the next few months. Thank you for the suggestions and for all you do to make Extra Space a great place to work.

Pros

Solid schedule - 40 hours per week, not expected to be there more than that. No one looking over your shoulder constantly (unless you have a new DM, they can't seem to help it) Mostly great people to work with Local, immediate management does care and are helpful.

Cons

Very large rate increases really upset customers and that's just too bad. We are given word to tell them but it just isn't true. Putting more money in stock holder's pockets is the bottom line and it doesn't matter how much anger we have to deal with. You are absolutely expected to sell insurance to every renter. However, you must be careful because you aren't "insurance salesmen". You get a ding when you don't sell it. We are encouraged to use evasive language and rush through it so the renter thinks it's required without quite saying so. You would think this large of a corporation would have handymen available but it is so, so difficult to get the smallest repair done due to getting bids from vendors, turning them in, reminding the person you turned them in to what needs done maybe getting approval, then scheduling. By that time lights (or whatever) have been out for a month or 2. Benefits are very expensive and cover so little.
