Pros

Benefits…. When/if you get them. There’s a “parent” company for safety.

Cons

First off, the hiring process. It’s horribly long, you have to fill out essay questions, and you’re never sure when you’ll hear from someone. You also are given the option on laptop preference. This was an ordeal, never received the laptop I requested. When I inquire, I’m always told “it’s coming.” Secondly, the company is still new, but no one seems to understand what exactly they’re doing or how to run a company. Don’t ask questions, you won’t receive any answers. Thirdly, you can’t trust anyone. It’s like high school, where people always talk behind your back. Others take credit for your ideas/work. You also work ALL the time, there is no work/life balance.

I’m really sorry that this has been your experience here. I wanted to ensure we touch every point you mentioned in your review: - Hiring Process & Prompts: This has been priority number 1 for the People Team. They’ve been proactively building out a lot of processes to make sure this feels seamless for both the candidates but also internally for our hiring managers. A lot of growth has happened month over month in this area. We understand that we have an atypical process. Take-home prompts/essays are built into it as we want to prioritize deep and thoughtful thinking and eliminate the time pressure of answering in a face-to-face interview. We believe this gives an equal opportunity to those who aren’t necessarily the strongest speakers but are still deep thinkers. - Laptop: Unfortunately, there’s a worldwide shortage of computer equipment resulting in us being unable to provide preferential laptops at times (i.e. Mac vs PC). We try our best to work around these special cases, including going to physical stores and purchasing equipment to ship if a new hire doesn’t have a personal laptop. We have also implemented better communication in the last couple of months to set clear expectations and laptop option specifications. - New company and ambiguity: As a start-up at scale, we are aware of the growing pains that impact the people who work here. Processes need to be made in an ambiguous environment, and we’re actively working on these. We have been expanding teams to address this, but we also strive to be thoughtful, which means it can take more time to solve properly. It's especially important to us, during this growth period, to receive and act on feedback to make it better. - Work life balance: Having a positive work life balance is something we strive for and we have systems in place to promote this. This includes flexible remote hours, unlimited PTO, Fortis Days, and end-of-year offlines. Hearing you feel as if you need to work all the time is a miss on our part for not communicating the importance of taking time off. I would encourage you to let your managers or People Team know so we can address this. - Trust & Recognition: I deeply apologize for how you feel about our culture. No one should ever feel like they are being talked about behind their back and cannot trust anyone or not get recognition for their work. Community is one of the pillars we build Fortis on, and we want to get to the bottom of this misalignment. To help us get to the bottom of this, please reach out to your manager or skip-level manager and talk through these issues with them if you haven’t already. We do take this seriously and want to make sure our culture matches our values. If you feel like they aren’t addressing it to a satisfactory level, reach out to the People Team. There’s an option to email them privately or even contact a 3rd party, EthicsPoint, to investigate. Both info are pinned in the People Team Slack Channel. We want to make sure that you feel heard and in a safe space to voice your concerns. We appreciate you being candid on here and hope that you’re taking the next steps internally so we can take the necessary steps on our end.

Pros

I could not ask for a better team to work with. We are very well aligned on goals and strategies across the entire company. Those goals push us to define strategies that make every person here feel part of the process to bring games to market. We are encouraged here to voice our opinions at every level and have our say. I wouldn't want to work anywhere else right now.

Cons

There are times when I get lost in corporate paperwork and tracking. This can be discouraging at times. I try to carve out time in my day to process the paperwork, ensuring it gets done without too much injury.
