Pros

Huge focus on learning and development. I love the opportunity to use a multitude of alternatives to enhance my technical and non technical skills. Online and offline learning opportunities galore. Second pro is the availability of an inexhaustible number of options to explore from a career perspective. The potential to learn and experience things that are at the cutting edge of the respective fields is immense. A company this huge, and the effort it’s making to bring itself and it’s huge employee base to the very latest in business and technology is akin to making an elephant dance, and what is amazing is that the Company seems to be succeeding. This leads you to ask the question, what’s next? And really the possibility is endless. I am proud to be a part of this huge and still growing ecosystem.

Cons

Salary growth is a little stagnant to say the least. Granted that this is compensated for by the focus on learning for someone like me to overlook the comfortable plateau of my current package. While a plethora of options exist, movement to new roles of your interest and choice isn’t all that fluid. There are a number of roadblocks, but a conscious effort is evidently being made to change this culture. So hopefully, soon enough, this may change.

Pros

Large client base. Talented people, have "cracked the code" on offshoring development and support.

Cons

For anyone used to working in US-based firms, the culture and politics will be difficult to understand and navigate. Internal policies and systems focus on the offshore delivery center model. Roles in the US do not fit into that mold, and obtaining approvals for simple expenses can require weeks and insanely high approval chains given the size of TCS. I needed approval from a global division head (a CEO direct-report) just to pay for a short training course. Missions of different departments are not clearly defined, so overlap and conflict are common.
