Engaged Employer

A good place to learn, but you'll have to find your own way. - Lead Studio Engineer Whirlpool Corporation Employee Review

Pros

There are a lot of potential paths for advancement at Whirlpool. Given the size of the company, almost anyone can find their niche. I was able to move around within the company during my 9.5 years of employment to find a place where I felt as though as was contributing the most I could. It took a while to get there, and it required both personal and corporate change to make it happen, but it did finally happen.

Cons

Being such a large company, it is easy to get lost. Depending on your desires, this can be either a good or bad thing. You also have to deal with the red tape and standardization that comes with an HR department trying to manage such a goliath. If you don't fit into the normal stream of things, it is difficult to find a place that makes you happy. You will be badgered to fit into that round hole, even though you may be a square peg.

Pros

Strong brand recognition and quality products. A bunch of great people.

Cons

Cult-like relationships: if you didn't grow up in Benton Harbor...Your boss did. I was recruited based on more than 25 years of multifamily housing experience and long-standing industry relationships. After joining, I discovered a substantial portion of my responsibilities involved government and commercial laundry accounts, which were not my area of expertise and were not what I expected from the interview process. The company appeared to place greater emphasis on standardized account management than leveraging established customer relationships and industry networks. For professionals hired because of their market knowledge and connections, this may be frustrating.
