Great Expereince

Pros

I worked at Epic for almost four and a half years in Implementation. I really enjoyed my time there. My fellow implementers were very hard working and smart people that were a lot of fun. The work that you do is very impactful work that positively benefits patients and clinicians across the country and now the world. The work is extremely challenging, but that leads to not getting bored. Epic does not tolerate poor performance which contributes to its success as a company. The campus is amazing, and it is a company and workplace that you can take pride in. I was given a ton of responsibility for someone that was straight out of undergrad.

Cons

As an implementer, I had to travel a ton. The travel wore on me to the point that I left. The job was very stressful at times, and during certain phases of the project, there were a lot of hours. There are starting to be more tenured people there, but with such rapid growth and a flat structure, it was hard to imagine myself there for my entire career.

Pros

Welcoming environment, supportive colleagues, good compensation, great city

Cons

Sometimes feel like a college campus, not necessarily working with full time developers on the same thing during the internship

Technical Services

Business Outlook

Pros

There's a lot of freedom in determining which skill set you want to develop (project management, development, etc.). There's also a good amount of flexibility in schedule (you can come in late or leave early as needed). Good food. The industry is also expanding rapidly.

Cons

You'll probably have to work 45-50 hours/week as tech support (50-60+ for project management). The pay isn't that great compared to consulting (which can demand as much as $100/hr for the same job). All "promotions" come with a serious increase in workload and no direct pay raise.
