Sad to say that their employment model leaves a lot to desire.

Pros

Free gym membership, way to create connections in your industry for yourself, clean environment. Amazing experience for members.

Cons

Equinox clearly does not value their employees. I have seen so many people attempt to make their model work, and for the very few that it works for, that's great, but the majority of employees end up leaving within a year of starting. It's sad. I could literally make more money working at a McDonalds than with this company. Their management is underpaid, which makes them self-serving and not want to be helpful. Additionally, many of the employees have spent a lot of money to get training in their field and are being paid minimum wage. It is not worth the experience. Employees make a lot of money for the company and see little to no return. Clients feel the hit when their favorite trainer/pilates instructor/massage therapist leaves and they are stuck with a package that they don't want to use with anyone else. Also - if you give in to ANY extra demands (oh come in for this one client) they will expect it from you constantly. It is not worth the time and effort here.

Pros

Got to work out in the beginning...then reality set in....not time to even do that with the pressure to get sales, make calls and create community outreach.

Cons

Company does not care about you. Worked every weekend, holiday and 12 hour shifts the last 4 days of every month. Sales goals are unrealistic. Goal had not been met at my club in over a year. Watched 7-8 Advisors come and go as well as a new Spa Manager, General Manager, Group Fitness Manager and Personal Training Manager. You come in stressed out because you cannot pay your bills and they ask you to please leave your worries at the door when you come to work. They also lead you to believe you will make $60k minimum with a potential of over $100k. It's all smoke & mirrors. I stayed one year and made $40k pre-tax in New York City and gave them my life. It burned me out.

Pros

membership kinda. Many staff members were great people.

Cons

vulgar managers, abusive workplace. Managers sleeping with managers and staff. Regional manages sleeping with club level managers. Vulgar language in the workplace constantly. It was an awful work experience. I have worked for a few different fitness companies and I was left shocked by the horrible unprofessional behavior., bully tactics, and frankly awful human beings. There are many reviews that say "great place to work!" and so on, AVOID EQUINOX. You have been warned! those positive reviews are made by the company to try and make a positive spin on a horrible place. There are MANY better places to work in the NYC area. DO NOT waste your time, effort, and energy with this place.
