Pros

Last salon was busy, great tips there. Amazing stylists to work with.

Cons

After 13 years was forced to terminate myself. The manager got away with talking to a client about "how disgusting I would look in a swimsuit", I was told how to eat, a shop pool party was cancelled because I was going to be there. The amount of torment that was allowed was ridiculous. People with that much self hate directed toward their employee shouldn't be in management. Franchisees did nothing about it. Was overlooked for management because she didn't "like" me even though I had the experience. After that many years still made less than $10 an hour and wasn't given my yearly reviews.

Pros

Good way to up your cutting skills, since its all cuts all day.

Cons

If you love working in a filthy salon this may be for you. If you want to scream at "customers" until they pick a cut you know how to do, this may be for you. If you want to be able to shave a childs head because your in a bad mood and dont want to deal with it, this may be for you. If you want to work cut-throat this is for you. If you want your schedule constantly changed so you dont build up clientele this is for you. If you want to do cuts 12 hours straight without a break during the sale, this is for you. If you want no manager or a bad manager, this is for you. If you want the owner to tell you its not his problem when something like the register is not working, this is for you. If you you dont like state board rules and regulations, this is for you. If you cannot live without drama everyday, this is for you. I gave it a try for a year, had a hard time with the no shampoo first thing going on, especially in an area where people dont bath regular.

Pros

If you are willing to work hard, and fast, like a guaranteed paycheck, don't mind working weekend and night's, and don't want to deal with the chemical services of color and nail services, this could be for you. I worked at Great Clips for 7 1/2 yrs (5 yrs in management). The pay was decent, and because the salon was located in a high income area, the tips can be really good compared to what I hear stylists at other great clips locations make. If you don't have time to wait until you build a steady following to make some money, because you need money now, this is a great company to work for. Also, paid holidays and paid vacation time make it a plus when compared to most full service salons.

Cons

Working nights, Sundays. Working with unreliable co workers who have no work ethics and call off all the time, which if you're a manager you end up having to cover many extra shifts, leaving very little family time for you. Lack of consistent raises, depending on your franchisee. The sales, oh my gosh! Really, do we need to make the low prices even lower? All that does is invite the bargain hunters in for their twice yearly haircuts, and makes people think that we must not be good stylists if we have to lower the price that much to get customers in. Constantly being understaffed and having to hire sub par stylists just to fill the schedule. Keeping trouble makers on the staff too long and letting them poison the well even further because if we fire them we will be even more understaffed. The online sign in app. If each employee doesnt explain it right every single time, it creates a lot of angry customers.
