No room for growth.

Pros

Summer hours. Typical 9-5, never stayed past 6. Great heath benefits. People are generally friendly. Relaxed office.

Cons

So many cons. Typical cubicle culture. If you're starting out as entry level, don't bother. The pay is terrible. I asked for a salary negotiation when I was hired, and HR flat out refused. I accepted anyways, thinking I could work my way up, but I was wrong. They promote mid-range to senior quite often, but discourage promoting a junior. I was reviewed countless times praising me for work performance, but never offered a promotion or raise. Upper management does not want to see you grow. I was promised multiple times that I would get better work and responsibilities but this was always "coming down the pipeline".

Pros

Working at one of the foremost publishers of trade fiction, with some of the most experienced colleagues, on books that will often succeed given Harper's immense knowledge of the industry and incredible connections, is of course incredibly rewarding. A self-starter can do very well here

Cons

Harper can be unfriendly and competitive at times. It's a big company and it feels like one.
