Pros

Starting wage is better than other retail companies; 9.00/hr vs 7.85/hr locally. General atmosphere is professional and positive. Year-end bonus based on hours worked and overall gross company profit, 40%. Shifts are consistent (i.e, 1st shift works ~5am - 3pm, 2nd shift works ~2pm - 12am, and 3rd shift works ~10pm - 6am with reasonable variation vs. scheduling at all hours). Opportunities for advancement are available without a degree necessary. Fountain soft drinks and coffee are free on the clock and the company pays half of uniform costs.

Cons

Shifts can be long -- 10 hours. Only two ten minute breaks at a maximum on aforementioned shift, no lunches allowed. Hours vary wildly each week for part timers; during the winter months, employees can expect 30hrs one week and half that the next, or less. Staffing can be extremely minimal on supposedly "slow" days, where only a few people are expected to maintain the store with no oversight and complete a list of duties while still serving customers. Maximum raise amount isn't great (0.25/hr on a perfect yearly review). Meager insurance benefits; part timers are not allowed coverage that meets Affordable Care Act "essential" standards. No sick pay for part timers and just three days of vacation that do not roll over. Employees can only request time off 90 days in advance and no further. Company culture has a bizarre, overly enthusiastic opinion of the owning family and CEO.

Pros

Profit sharing Provide benefits for both full and part time co-workers

Cons

Motto “Food is our future” but treat food co-workers like second rate citizens Moving to a part time co-worker culture sacrificing quality of food and services, when customers ask “who’s cooking” before making a purchase, you have a problem, absolutely zero time is allotted for training and by moving to part time co-workers that is just double the staff to try and train, mentor and supervise co-workers who are already at a disadvantage because of being thrown into a job they are not ready for. Over zealous with trying to make hourly co-workers happy most time to the detriment of staffing levels. (If a co-worker asks for a day off and 10 others have also asked for the same day they all get that day off and make the rest work short staffed but the expectations do not waiver) Absolutely no cooperation between retail and food co-workers, it is like two different countries and the only common denominator is that they share a property boundary. District and corporate leadership does not spend any time in the store so as to know what is actually happening and the store leaders are basically beaten into shape to tell district leaders everything is wonderful

Pros

I enjoyed my time at Kwik Trip due to the relatively fun atmosphere and positive interactions with coworkers. However, I acknowledge that the work environment can vary significantly depending on the store and its leadership.

Cons

I found it challenging that, as a part-time employee, there were no guaranteed minimum hours. The inconsistency in my weekly schedule, with some weeks having substantial hours and others only offering one or two days of work, was difficult to navigate. Additionally, there were times when the workplace culture felt intense and almost cult-like. While I appreciate the company and my role, I prefer a healthy work-life balance and did not want my job to consume every aspect of my life.
