Feels Like Family

Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, most employees are thrilled to be working in publishing and are passionate about the job. Overall a very welcoming place to work.

Cons

There are no cons to this job that couldn't apply to any other job - sometimes a few people are difficult to work with, sometimes you have to much work on your plate. But overall anything you are asked to do is manageable, and Macmillan hires a lot of (paid) interns that are willing to help.

Good company to start a career in book publishing.

Pros

*Fellow employees are passionate about book publishing both as an art and as a business. *Low-key work environment; not too buttoned-up. *Access to great books.

Cons

*Low salary (especially for entry-level workers). *Difficult to move up. *Managers are often extremely busy (understandably so) and it can be difficult to establish a mentoring relationship.
