My experience at Macmillan was unfortunately the opposite of what I expected when I joined. From day one, I received no real onboarding, no structured training, and minimal support from my direct manager. Despite raising this early on, nothing changed. Instead of improving communication or offering guidance, I began experiencing unfair treatment and increased scrutiny, which escalated over time. The most troubling part of my experience happened around the time I was summoned for jury duty. I had been transparent with my supervisor about the dates and requirements, yet during that period his behavior toward me shifted noticeably. Communication became tense, interactions felt adversarial, and I often felt singled out. Shortly before I raised my own concerns with HR about the lack of support and the way I was being treated, my manager made claims about my performance that I believe were inaccurate and not reflective of my actual work. I provided documentation and explanations to HR to dispute those claims, but my concerns were largely dismissed, and it felt as though my manager’s narrative was accepted without meaningful review. Ultimately, my position was eliminated shortly after this — an outcome that left me feeling unheard, unsupported, and unsure whether the process was handled fairly or objectively. I left the company disappointed not only by the lack of procedural safeguards, but by how quickly legitimate concerns were brushed aside.
