Exciting tech, positive company mission, and great people

Pros

- A company mission that is good for society, not just the business - A CEO that believes in supporting the players first and trusting that they will support our business - Talented teams made up of genuinely good people that care about their products - The only company driving both an exciting new tech field (Augmented Reality) and running real-world events for their players - Employees encouraged to attend events and meet our players - Perks (food/reimbursements/benefits) and social get-togethers (climbing, board games, etc.) - Office location with an amazing view

Cons

- Recruiting process can take a while (but not complaining as long as it maintains the current quality of people) - Some people appear to be overloaded with work, though it may be by choice. People love what they do here! - If you're the type who needs a lot of direction from management, you may struggle a bit. While managers are always available for advice, they largely try to enable you to set your own direction and work priorities.

Pros

- Coworkers are technically competent, passionate, and always ready to lend a helping hand. - Working on high-impact projects from the get-go. - High amount of responsibility. - Google-style TGIF meetings with good transparency. - Amazing view of the bay at the office. You think I'm overstating it, but it seriously energizes me. - We are actively making efforts to improve processes in order to mitigate growing pains. Cool benefits: - Free lunch. - All the Ito En tea you can drink. - 15 days PTO, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time. - Reimbursements for gym, internet, and mobile. - 401k matching. - Insurance. - If you're in the Seattle office, a Dance Dance Revolution machine.

Cons

- Sometimes our goals are too aggressive, and we end up sacrificing quality for ship time. - Experiencing growing pains which are the cause of some organizational issues and underdeveloped engineering conventions / documentation. - Sometimes feels like we need to pull long hours because of our aggressive goals. However, I also just really like working on Pokemon Go, so that's also a factor. - From what I've heard, experience varies quite a bit from team to team; perception of cost center vs profit center. - Despite our efforts towards transparency, we are not fully transparent e.g. about upcoming project codenames. - Meetings can sometimes feel a bit pointless for some attendees.

Pros

Our games are very cool so far and there's much, much more to come. There's definitely an ambitious plan for the company to grow and do great things. Niantic is still in its early days. We focus 100% on what's good for our players. We're very much intent on encouraging people to go out into the world, get some exercise, meet others, and be part of their communities. Everyone on the team is friendly, positive and supportive. Work-life balance is quite good for either a startup or a game company, and Niantic is both.

Cons

The company is still very much in start-up mode, moving quickly and evolving rapidly. Be ready for a dynamic environment.
