Terrible Leadership

Recommend
Business Outlook

Pros

Pokémon is a very popular, beloved franchise that keeps an otherwise sinking ship afloat.

Cons

Incredibly bad leadership in the lower ranks. J-team seems fine, but management skills of leads, directors, etc., at the project level is more than bad...it’s harmful. There’s been so much turn-over due to the incompetence of these well-meaning “leaders”. There’s also a general lack of personal responsibility at the company deriving from devastated worker-morale.

Pros

Really smart coworkers Engineering culture is still amazing Work-life balance issues have been fixed

Cons

Recent chaos emanating from the top level - team needs have been ignored for half a year and recent wild priority shifts. John sometimes takes pointless stands that clearly undermine his own goals. Managers spread too thinly Understaffed teams. Some teams totally neglected while others soak up attention and power Penny-wise, pound-foolish / stingy with reimbursements and equipment Overcrowded and noisy offices (^ and they will not reimburse headphones) New team members are always announced at the very last minute; no way to prepare

Yikes

Recommend
Business Outlook

Pros

Employees, ERGs, interesting IPs, L&D expansion, benefits.

Cons

The exec team is splintered, the People team went from being genuinely helpful to a miasma of toxic positivity (please stop with “FriYAY!”), and so many awesomely talented employees have been chased away by leadership that is by turns obstinate, RAF, and transparently ego-driven. The VP collective exhibits the most weaponized ignorance to be found west of the Mississippi. Don’t expect any accountability above the director level. The Niantic values aren’t worth the screens on which they’re displayed.
