      I was fired half-way through my probation period without any warning or explanation, leaving my family in a difficult financial position. Stay well away!

      Parting ways is always a difficult decision that we take with great responsibility, weighted in the best interests of the team; I've learned this to be the approach with leaders throughout the organization. I can only speak to the process during my time at PLOS, in which there have been no separations without warning or explanation beforehand.       As with any smaller company you have to be prepared to take on projects and task which may not classically fall within your job role.

      Thank you for the input! It's encouraging to know that you're experiencing a people-centered approach at PLOS. It can indeed be a challenge to provide well-structured roles without "other duties creep" when team resources or priorities change, especially given the transitions that have come with new leadership the past couple of years. It's been great to see team structures maturing and stabilizing, and I'm optimistic that will be the case on your team as well :).
