Pros

I loved working at Pearson until the corporate reorganization ocurred. The benefits were great as were the people I worked with. I felt as though I was providing a social benefit, ie. publishing school text books. Though I worked very hard, it was rewarding. If your direct report was a good manager you had more opportunities etc.

Cons

People who were with the company over 20 years went from developing quality books to having to re-interview for their positions. Corporate management and restructuring destroyed morale. Unorganized project planning from upper management. Increasingly ridiculous schedules. Poor business practices. Unfair vendor relationships - I think Pearson was personally responsible for stateside vendors going out of business. Flexible work week and work from home were discouraged. Atmosphere became very clique-like. It was all about playing the game. Favortism was rampant in upper management.

Pros

Pearson has good work life balance. I seldom work over 40 hours in a week. My team gets a chance to look into newer technologies. Its also nice to work in the education field. The benefits are good and the building is modern and new. There are a few perks specific to the publishing side of Pearson such as 60% off of books published by Pearson. The morale is generally high here and there is a good degree of employee freedom.

Cons

In some cases the pay may not be the very highest possible. The chances to move up the ladder are limited in some technical roles.
