Pros

Large company so good overall benefits and if ambitious can move up or to shift to different departments/offices. Some very good and nice people to work with. Friendly office and most people were nice and helpful.

Cons

Because it's a large company, if your "too low in the food chain" you are the last to know what is going on with the company. Because it's a large company, it can lead to large layoffs, especially when Penguin and Random House first merged. Lots of people were lost their jobs. Pay was very low even after working there for a few years with raises.

Pros

Creative work, intelligent co-workers, generous benefits and vacation time.

Cons

Long time older workers do not retire and make room for younger people. Many are very entitles and seem to take advantage of generous time off and their seniority and do not do their fair share of work. This creates an environment of discouragement and resentment

Pros

PRH as a corporate goes out of it's way to keep make it's employees comfortable: 4 weeks of vacation (after first year), $500 annually toward health/fitness, 401k matching, charitable giving matching, sports teams, discount programs, social activities, free and discounted book programs, a sabbatical programs and one huge holiday party. Work environments differ radically between the different imprints, though!

Cons

VERY big corporate, which has some obvious drawbacks. And, in general, publishing doesn't pay as well as many other major NYC industries.
