Lost Its Way

Pros

SCEA has great work/life balance. In the past, it provided great advancement opportunities. There were many social opportunities to interact with employees in other departments. People were very friendly. Paid time off at the holidays was awesome.

Cons

Management has been trying to improve the company for the past 3-4 years, but each change continues to diminish morale. New management does not value the contributions of the employees who built the company. "Lifers" has become a negative term instead of one of respect. Old management is trying too hard to please new management, and the "Sony Way" has been lost.

Pros

It's an easy job. It is considered experience in the video game field. Casual dress.

Cons

This is only as a QA tester. Intimidated into working overtime. It was alluded to that you would lose your job if you opt out (which I did after 6 straight months of doing it). Overtime was, and is common to be 12 hours a day 6 days a week and an 8 hour shift on Sundays. I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel issues in both of my wrists due to this overtime but was still asked to do the overtime as soon as the doctor released me.

Pros

Brand recognition, relatively competitive benefits package, office facilities were adequate for an office of this size, some SCEA perks were nice due to affiliation with Sony. Some very talented individuals within the organization motivated to doing great things.

Cons

Too much office politics, constant dealings with emotional, irrational management. Cannot get ahead unless in bed (literally) with management, quid pro quo. Low morale. Too many Sony "lifers" in the organization more interested in protecting their position rather than push interesting ideas. Too much inertia and inflexible due to the many layers of management and red tape.
