Work hard, play hard

Pros

Things are done fast here once you convince the right 1-2 people that it's worth doing. It's a very agile environment and we try to be flexible with our priorities. Everyone is super friendly and easy to get along with. There's lots of social events and the whole office turns into a party on Fridays. Pool table, foosball, ping pong, Nintendo Wii -- it's like a gigantic playground!

Cons

You do have to work hard at this company. Working late into the night past midnight is not the day-to-day norm, but definitely something to you'll come to expect around major release dates, emergency bugs etc. This might be due to the fact that we are quite ambitious with the features we try to cram into each release and management does get stressed out at times.

Awesome people, supportive culture

Pros

Pocket Gems loves hiring people with unrealized potential. Probably because of that, the culture is extremely collaborative, with a focus on crowdsourcing ideas and mentoring individuals. Many of the recent hires are new college grads, and the more experienced "gemmers" are committed to making these new employees successful. Innovation has always been a priority for the company, as opposed to doing fast-follows or reskins. While Pocket Gems' most successful games are in the same "social gaming simulation" genre, they aggressively explore risky new themes and new mechanics. In addition, the company has begun exploring new genres in recent months.

Cons

It can be intimidating to be surrounded by people who are smarter than you. No one is slacking off here. Fortunately, everyone is humble and committed to seeing the best ideas win out in the end.
