AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE

Pros

Free coffee, casual Fridays, early dismissal on holiday weekends. And free lunch if your clients didn't eat during your meeting you get their leftovers.

Cons

Extremely shady business decisions - 2 group heads were replaced by a new team from another bank without their knowledge. They were notified by clients that they were being replaced. Management did not even have the decency to notify them. Bankers are let go very often before you can bond with them. High turnover in analysts due to very long hours 9am-2am-ish. Your contract will not be renewed if you didn't brown nose. Overnighters happen often. And do not complain about anything to management because that's a problem for them and gives them extra work. MD's are either poor or amazing, very inconsistent. There are only a handful of people that are willing to be genuine mentors. Please DO NOT WORK HERE.

Pros

- Incredible level of resources and support from head office - befitting the largest company in the country. - Generally the quality of individual that works at RBC is high. You are dealing with strong co-workers and managers. - Strong brand identity and recognition. The RBC brand carries weight with customers.

Cons

- Culture is a little bit cut throat and competitive. Less welcoming than the other banks I've worked for, RBC knows they are the biggest and the best and the long term employees act like it. - It's a surprisingly cost conscious firm. Our office doesn't even have communal coffee, the thinking is basically that they pay us enough that if you want coffee, you're on your own.

Mainly nice people - dodgy management culture

Pros

On the whole a good environment to work. Good people from good back grounds who want to do a good job for clients. Many well regarded names there.

Cons

Very odd culture within the management team especially in terms of cherry picking certain people for promotions when their performance/ knowledge base is shaky. Especially amongst selected girls (lots of nudges and winks about how this happens). If an MD wants to buy a new kitchen for the wife - that's you job gone. Weird but true. Heard strange stories of some girls having harassment issues, but MD's in question always kept jobs and girls kicked out a while later in one way or another. Names mentioned on the office floor. Really hope this isn't true or should be investigated by eternal professionals.
