Pros

Relationships at the individual contributor level. Bright and talented engineering staff. Decent benefits.

Cons

RSA used to be a company that fostered and supported organic innovation while making best in class security products. The current leadership is only interested in making huge bets on the latest buzz words (cloud, big data, analytics) while reducing investment (and people) in core technologies. Innovation and invention has been replaced with mergers and acquisitions.

Quarter-to-quarter management

Pros

Flexible working schedules. No problem working from home. Compensation about average. Salary is divided between base and bonus. Some managers think the bonus is automatic and some don't. Company says it is not automatic.

Cons

Any long term plan is abandoned at first sign of difficulty. EMC (parent company) seems to manage resources (i.e., people) on a quarter-to-quarter basis: layoffs are frequent. Lots of management politics. New products are not bringing in the revenue of the old standby - SecurID - and even that product in bringing in less and less. Always lots of talk of EMC selling RSA.

Stressful sales driven culture

Pros

The pay scales are decent and in line with its competition. There are very competent and talented hard-working people working for RSA at the mid-level.

Cons

The company culture for most of RSA is one managed by fear and firefighting. Goals, planning and direction flip/flop at the whim of management and are driven by numbers and little else. People go unrecognized and don't figure into the company culture equation and it shows. There is no investment in talent. Don't plan on getting ahead or getting recognized for a job well-done unless you have an in with someone. Business units are isolated and not aligned to each other's goals. If you're evaluating RSA against other similar options, consider the options.
