Pros

Coming from a traditional background (banking), I was not completely sure that the videogame industry would be a viable career. I could not be more wrong. It is a perfect place! Will you have the opportunity to work on something you're super passionate about... And this changes the way you see your work. The culture is not only a banner on the wall... It is really part of everyday's decision: hiring, investment, changes etc. It is a very open and transparent culture. You, as a gamer, will be working with other gamers to deliver amazing stuff for gamers. If you love this industry, that's the right place for you. Riot provides all the resources that you might need in your projects and trust for you to learn along the way.

Cons

Everyone has an opinion for everything and discussions can last for a long time if the direction is not clear. However, when the direction is determined, the delivery power is immense.

A place that truly values career

Pros

I'm still amazed at how much Riot invests in the development and advancement of Rioters. This is a place where you feel valued AND challenged; challenged to bring your A-game at every turn. The sense of being valued extends beyond development and permeates all aspects from compensation to advancement. The inane pressures placed upon employees of publicly traded companies simply don't exist at Riot. Delivering excellence for players remains top priority.

Cons

It's easy to become immersed in Riot and lose sight of the broader landscape. That's more of an onus on me versus Riot.

Career growth and gaming

Pros

Riot has grown a great deal in both scope and maturity since I started. It's been really nice to be able to continue to contribute to all of the above. Riot gives you a ton of individual freedom and you are encouraged to take ownership of things you care about from tech decisions to game design to people. Being a gamer among gamers is amazing, you are able to deeply understand and work on a shared passion together.

Cons

Work life balance has been a challenge at times, mostly since my peers end up doing it to ourselves - we choose to go the extra mile which has some costs. Hiring is also very slow. This is a deliberate decision to ensure that Riot hires people who will be successful here, however it has the side effect of frustrating teams and hiring managers. There is also a large disparity in the bench of senior leaders across the different disciplines which is frustrating. If you come from a larger or more mature organization you will be surprised and or frustrated. The pace of change is slow.
