Incredible environment, incredible people

Pros

Riot truly cares about the player experience; it's their #1 focus, and it's clear in everything they do. I love the open feedback culture and work autonomy; it's a great environment for those who are passionate about what they do. One thing that drew me to Riot was the enthusiasm Rioters have for their work; it's amazing to work with such dedicated, passionate people. Riot has great amenities for Rioters, too: phenomenal food, spotless bathrooms, convertible standing desks, creative conference rooms, expansive courtyard, and awesome events - more than I'd ever dreamed of asking from a company!

Cons

There's a lot of "tribal knowledge" (without thorough or consistent documentation) in the data systems that make it hard for new people to dive in and utilize data effectively.

A company with a lot of potential, expanding too fast and losing sight

Pros

- Casual atmosphere - Open-office atmosphere - Most employees are more than willing to teach you or explain what they're doing - Strong product

Cons

- Many employees work a lot of overtime - Late hours makes work/life balance difficult - Over-saturation of resources where not needed, leading to wasted work or a lot of wasted time - Losing sight of original ideals and values

Pros

Decent compensation Healthy business Fun products

Cons

Slow pace Lack of growth opportunities. Often because of the above. Both ICs and management have an overinflated view of their own success. The employee base is a young compared to tech. This leads to a "college" like mentality of living near and at work. Employees "throw themselves" at problems instead of working smarter. When they succeed, they believe they did a great job and don't understand the depth of expertise and experience they're missing out on. There is a lack of "maturity" to how organizations solve problems which leads to moments when your see management and higher level ICs have an overinflated view of their performance. There is favoritism from your peers and management. Often times it's as simple as whether you fit the racial mold of the company. You'll notice management giving opportunities to some people over others in an effort to push them out or limit their success. You'll notice your peers be eager to help some people who fit the mold, but offer minimal help otherwise (unless it's in their own self-interest).
