Pros

It pays the bills. Field crew are good to work with. I tell all the new trainee's, get all the traning you can in your first two years and then leave for a better oilfield service company. Feels great when you leave.

Cons

You are just a piece of meat with a number. No balance with home / work life. Poor salary. Incompetent management. Management will walk all over you just so they can move up the ladder. Slb believe all their own hype. Way too much politics Most employee's are brain washed, especially the engineers. Working hours too long. HSE and be a real pain in the arse. Most of it just a meaningless exercise. Slb will take over your life.

Great company for ppl with eng degree

Pros

Great opportunities for advancement if you have an engineering degree. Nearly all the negative reviews here are people who have worked in the field. Granted, the field is extremely tough, but life is totally different at a technology center, where everyone works 8 a.m. to 5. For the most part, management is very open and respective to its employees. Your immediate report, (e.g Product Line Manager) will often be your best friend. Middle and senior management is another story.

Cons

If you don't have an engineering degree, opportunities are limited. You have to carve out a niche and be prepared to defend your value to the company.
