Pros

Shopify is a well known company that got me a ton of interest once I had it on my resume. Full remote was nice. There is opportunity to join different teams and groups, I knew a lot of people who did that which was nice if you want to try something different

Cons

Constant change and layoffs. I had 3 managers within 3 months. Multiple re-orgs and changes constantly in marketing. The company has no idea the value of new customers and is always changing KPIs and goals. Each marketing group is very Siloed so working cross function is very difficult. Pay was mediocre at best. You get a salary amount and can have it all be cash or split it with Equity and cash, unlike most public companies that do both. No ESPP, and Stock RSU amounts change each quarter with the share price, so no incentive to actually take any money in stock.

Pros

I liked the variety of the work I was doing, I was part of the language team when it just started and then did support on social media. I'm sad to have learned that it doesn't exist anymore. I liked the team and the culture. The perks were nice too!

Cons

Didn't feel like we were heard, complicated to communicate to solve issues that would have improved our work. Felt like we were just a tiny small team in the whole company of thousands of employees and we didn't really matter. We did voice it often and it didn't matter. For some reason, I was trying my best to do quality work but the more I tried to do what they told me to change, the worse my score became. It's like, the more they told me to not be myself, the worse my work quality was. I felt too micromanaged. We functionned several months at first without even a team lead, and honestly it was awesome, we did good work, we built the team together. We did want a team lead so that things were less scrappy, but honestly once we got team leads it became worse and worse.
