Pros
A lot of friendly, talented and humble colleagues
Cons
As someone who joined Shopify before the pandemic, I have seen the rise and fall of this company. As the business was booming during the pandemic, so was our perks (budget for home-office, 4 day work week during summer etc.) and there was a general good feeling about the company. During that time we were working a lot but we also felt valued by the leadership. At this point I was advertising my company to everyone about how a great workplace that is. It turns out it's easy to be nice to your employees when the business was booming. As the pandemic was ending so was the good times. The stock price crashed and from then on nothing good ever happened. The leadership was either sucking up to the CEO or leaving the company. A one-man company by all means. They were erratic with all of their decisions. They were shutting down projects after a few months, starting new ones, and then shutting the new ones and reversing the shutdown of old ones... When they fired people they were outright lying to the rest of the company regarding the terms of their layoff. One story to the ones who got laid off, a completely different story to the ones who are left. If you are a person who can or will be hired by Shopify, my advice to you is that you probably can afford to be in a much better place.
