Pros

There are several reasons why I enjoy working at Springer Nature: - Interesting work and the opportunity to be part of one of the leading academic publishers in the world. - A rich array of opportunities to be involved in mission-driven initiatives, for example around diversity and inclusion, sustainability and others. - An amazing group of colleagues who really make me excited to go to work every day. - A renewed effort by the company to recognize the contribution of employees in various ways and a lot of opportunities for training and personal development. - The company's size and breadth mean there are a good number of career progression opportunities if one is willing to make lateral moves. - A continued effort to monitor the company's performance with respect to its employees and things that matter alongside accountability (annual diversity surveys, employee engagement surveys, sustainable business reports, etc.).

Cons

As with every big company, there is a certain "stiffness" and resistance to change. Here are some things I would classify as negative about Springer Nature: - A fairly hierarchical structure for the company and individual teams. - Diversity at the higher levels of management (C-level and board) is still lacking. - Salaries do not always reflect the importance and prestige of some of the brands/imprints within Springer Nature. Salary reviews have happened in the past couple of years but our salaries were benchmarked against the median of the industry, which is somewhat contradictory for a publisher who aims to be a leader. - Career progression can be a challenge if only looking at verticals and especially for specific job families within the company (e.g., editorial).

Thank you for sharing your insights and taking the time to offer advice. As you rightly say amazing people and we are working really hard to focus on career progression for all. We have published our DEI representation goals which is fairly ambitious for the industry and includes senior leadership so we're excited to contribute to this.

Pros

Typical WFH balance (3 days in office/2 from home); some great people work at Springer Nature; there are oppotunities to be involved in employee groups etc.

Cons

Top leadership are not invested in their employees, but do put a lot of effort into making it seem as if they are. No progression/some people who happen to be men get paid a lot more than others for the same role, no pracitcal steps to address internal inequalities and genearl low morale.
